Brian Gilliland is Business Development Director at Westlinks, a growing and ambitious building company in Hull.
Westlinks undertakes social housing maintenance, conversions and renovations, insurance work, domestic and commercial renovations and major-minor works. Brian joined the Board at the beginning of 2017 to help the company realise its considerable growth potential. His ambition is to see Westlinks as a driving force in the construction sector in Hull, and to bring well-paid stable jobs to the city for considerable numbers of people.
Joining the construction sector was a complete departure for Brian, who had spent 25 years in the non-profit sector, 20 of those running his fundraising consultancy, OneGilliland. Brian has worked with leading charity brands, and leading universities (he has worked with over half of the prestigious Russell Group of Universities), but has a passion for small, focused causes. “I like to see exactly where the money goes,” he says.
In Hull, Brian was the Development Director on the £4.5 million transformation of Holy Trinity Church/Hull Minster, and remains on the church PCC. Last year, he led a team of 8 local businessmen to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of Holy Trinity.
Brian specialises in direct marketing, copywriting and marketing project management – all skills that are readily transferable to his new role at Westlinks.
Northern Irish by birth, Brian is now at home in Hull, where he lives near the university with his wife, who is a doctor at Hull Royal Infirmary, two young daughters, and a dog and too many cats.
