Norman is the Managing Director of the pre-employment and background checking company, Agenda Screening Services. He previously worked in the life science research sector for 23 years before joining Agenda as a manager in 2001. He then progressed to director and in July 2017 to managing director. Agenda Screening Services is a division of Agenda Resource Management who also provide life science recruitment, contract staffing, facility management and marketing services.
When Norman joined Agenda, it operated from offices in a converted grain store at the home of the company owners, Paul and Heather Sanders. Since that time Norman has been instrumental in the development of Agenda increasing the number of employees from 7 staff to over 160 and sales from £1M to £8M. The primary challenge was moving to a derelict site and renovating the offices to a high-quality working environment – these were opened by Graham Stuart MP in May 2016.
Norman believes that if you look after people they are more likely to want to do a great job and deliver an excellent service for the clients. This is built into the Agenda Values of Respect, Reputation and Responsibility but more importantly it is enshrined in Agenda’s two big hairy goals – Agenda is committed to being a Great Place to Work and to doubling in size by 2020.
Norman was closely involved in the development of the 2020 growth strategy and the Great Place to Work programme that underpins everything that Agenda does. A quality disciple, Norman has focused the continual development of a professional, friendly and bespoke service that can compete with even the biggest of competitors. New technological innovations have enabled scalability, enhance the customer experience and enable the Agenda team to work more efficiently.
Compliance has also been a major growth issue and Agenda holds ISO27001 (Information Security), ISO9001 (Quality), ISO14001 (Green Processes), Investors in People (Staff Development) and Cyber Essentials (Systems Security) – These externally audited certifications provide reassurance that valuable personal information is being managed securely and are embedded into the day to day processes and are not just certificates on the wall.
Agenda’s screening business now provides services to hundreds of SMEs, Government institutions and blue-chip companies across a wide range of sectors, alongside bespoke training and compliance services with regards to effective hiring, insider threats, information and cyber security and the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) implementation.
Norman is very active in voluntary roles, he is on the board of the National Association of Professional Background Screeners European Chapter and on the boards of the regional Institute of Directors and the Humber Business Resilience Forum (a free resource to enable local organisations to become more cyber resilient and to make the Humber region a safer place in which to do business).
