Lessons we can learn from Forrest Gump

In 1993 Forrest Gump first appeared on our screens, sat on that bench and told us that “life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get” … He entered our hearts and inspired many of us with memorable quotes such as; “Stupid is as stupid does”, “My Mama always said you’ve got to put the past behind you before you can move on”, “You have to do the best with what God gave you.”

There are so many lessons that entrepreneurs can draw from Forrest Gump – but we need to be truly looking before we can find. There is much in his life about the value of mentors, what you do with what you’re given (especially In business when we should never be afraid to try something new - you may surprise yourself). He tells us we need be kind to, and look for the good in each other (as we do within For Entrepreneurs Only) BUT we need to find the good in our staff and most importantly our customers. He also teaches us to be a good friend, to be philanthropic in giving our time and money back.

Forrest teaches us to be a good listener and to keep our eyes open, to read and keep up to date, because if not, things can pass us by without us knowing. He tells us to be honest with ourselves about what makes us happy - and as Mr Nike said, “just do it”

Many will recall for no particular reason Forrest put on his ‘Bubba Gump’ cap and decided to go for a little run…. He ran for miles and miles and miles before eventually someone ran with him, then another, and another… and Ladies and Gentlemen and that it how entrepreneurs build big businesses… If you start runnin’ others will run with you.

Entrepreneurship is inside all of us at FEO, it mirrors life in so many ways, it is a journey that should never end, with us spotting the opportunities as we pass through … and remember what Forrest’s mother said about life, “It’s like a box of chocolates: You never know what you’re gonna get.”
